I have just bought a wrecked 112A Model which I plan to restore within the next couple of years.

I still need all the technical manuals availavble (maintenance manual, structural repair manual, wiring and so on...). Can anyone help me as where I can find these things?

Thanks

Matt Tuerler

Matt,

The only source I know of for those manuals would be the Commander Aircraft company. There website is www.commanderair.com. There you can find the phone number for Commander. Give them a call and ask for the service department. They can confirm which manuals they have.

Good luck in your restoration project.

Subject:        rockwell commander twin??

 Priority:       normal

 Dear sir/madam

About a year ago I was takewn for a flight in a twin turboprop aircraft which I was told by the pilot was a Rockwell Commander. After a quick search on the net I found your site - but it describes the aircraft as single engined? Is there something wrong with my ears, or is there another explanation?

Joan,

I do not know of anyone who makes engine models, but you might try some of the airplane model companies.  They may be able to make one if you can provide a photo.  Here are some links :

hi, this is phil from the uk. I own a 112a 1976 with 68 gallon tanks, and
have heard of a rumoured modification to increase the wing span to that of
the 112b for higher cruise speed/ceiling, does anyone know if this is
available ? and who from ?

  regards  phil lawton G-BEDG
Hi Phil,

Commander Aircraft with there 115 model increased the fuel load up to 90 gallons I believe.  The max for any 112B is also 68.  None of the Rockwell Commanders hold more than 68 as far as I know ( 112/112A/112B/112TC/112TCA ).  Also, the increase in the wing span really would not do much to increase your speed, even at higher altitude, as the manifold pressure drops rapidly after 7 or 8 thousand feet causing loss of engine power.  If you want to fly high and fast in your 112a your best bet is to install a turbo.  RCM normalizing has an STC for all 112's that will add 20 or more knots at altitude an get you up to altitude much quicker.

Thanks for stopping by the ac11 website...

Looking at buying a 114.
Do you know of any good-to-knows about looking at a second hand 114 ? - Ive
seen the 112 briefin you have gotm, which looks general enough, but any
personal experiences and places to look would be good.
Many Thanks

Hi Gary,

You can take a look at aso.solid.com and check for 114's for sale.  You can get an idea of prices being asked for different 114's based on there age and condition.  Also Commander Aircraft sells used Rockwell Commanders.  You can check out there site at www.commanderair.com.  Once you find an aircraft that interests you, I would suggest a good first step would be to review the aircraft logs with the owner.  In the logs you can see if the owner regularly changed the oil, what type of annuals were performed, if there are any "regularly" occuring problems, etc.  If the logs look good, then a pre-buy inspection would be in order.  Have your mechanic give the aircraft a very good inspection, making sure all AD's have been meet, and that the aircraft is in good condition.  If problems are found, you can ask the current owner to repair the problems as a condition of the sale, or reduce the sale price by the amount it would take to make such repairs. You can also ask the owner to take you for a test flight.  At that time you can check and make sure all radio's work, all the navigation equipment and flight instruments work and evaluate the condition of the interior of the plane.

I hope this info helps, and thanks for visiting my web site.

I'm interested in the Commander and am looking at a low time ' 76 112A. What is the engine, TBO, and GPH. What might be a fair price if this plane with 1700hrs. is in good shape. Many thanks, Mortie
Hi Mortie,

Sorry for the late reply, but I am just back from vacation. The TBO is 2000 hours, however, there is also a time component so if the Commander has not had an overhaul yet I am sure it is due. Typical GPH is between 8 and 10 gph depending on power setting. Price depends on a number of factors, including interior and exterior shape, upgrades, damage history and mechanical condition. You can look at sites such as www.aso.com to see what used Commanders are selling for. Look there I see http://www.aso.com/ad/55419/ which is a 112a with 1760 hours selling for $79,000.

I hope this info helps.
